Kitchen Renovation Cost in Ontario: 2026 Guide

Kitchen renovation pricing in Ontario is driven more by scope than by room size alone. Two kitchens with the same footprint can have very different budgets depending on cabinetry, appliances, countertops, layout changes and how much electrical or plumbing work is required.

If you are planning a kitchen renovation in Orangeville, Caledon or Brampton, we can review the room and build a clear written scope around the layout and finish level you want.

Typical 2026 kitchen renovation ranges

HomeStars' current Canadian guide reports an average kitchen renovation cost around $30,944, with reported spending from roughly $16,402 to $45,618. Its broader 2026 guide groups many basic kitchen renovations around $15,000 to $30,000, mid-range projects around $30,000 to $60,000 and high-end renovations above $80,000.

Treat those figures as planning references. Ontario labour conditions, room size, product choices and the amount of layout change all affect the real number.

Basic, mid-range and high-end are really scope categories

A basic renovation may refresh cabinets, counters, backsplash, fixtures and paint without changing the room significantly. A mid-range project usually replaces more of the kitchen and may include semi-custom cabinetry and stone counters. A high-end project can involve custom cabinetry, premium appliances, major layout changes and architectural work.

Cabinetry and hardware

Cabinetry is commonly one of the largest parts of the budget. Stock cabinets can control cost, while custom cabinetry adds flexibility, finish options and storage features at a higher price.

The important step is to finalize the cabinet plan before coordinating counters, plumbing, electrical and appliances.

Countertops and backsplash

Laminate, quartz, granite, porcelain and other countertop materials have very different pricing and installation requirements. Backsplash material, layout and edge details can also affect labour.

These finish choices are easier to manage when selected before the project reaches the installation stage.

Appliances and ventilation

A standard appliance package and a premium built-in package can differ by tens of thousands of dollars. Appliance selection can also affect electrical requirements, gas lines, ventilation and cabinet dimensions.

Choose appliances early enough that the kitchen is designed around actual specifications instead of assumptions.

When layout changes are worth it

Moving a sink, range, wall or doorway can improve the kitchen substantially, but those changes should solve a real functional problem because they trigger work across multiple trades.

If the existing layout already works, keeping the core footprint can free more of the budget for cabinetry, counters, lighting and finishes.

How to compare Ontario kitchen estimates

Check whether demolition, disposal, cabinetry installation, counters, plumbing, electrical, drywall repair, flooring, backsplash, painting and cleanup are included. A lower total is not necessarily cheaper if several major pieces are excluded.
